If this is your first
bellydance class, you're bound to have a few questions. Here is
a list of a few of the most common questions and even a few you might
not have thought of.
What should
I wear to class?
Wear anything you might
wear to a yoga class or any other fitness class to begin with.
You absolutely do NOT need to bare your midriff at any time.
Also, plan to dance bare foot.
What is the
general age range of women in your classes?
Over the years, Anya has
students whose ages range from 14 to 74 (see below for guidelines
regarding minors). The average age is
mid-thirties to early forties. Anya's classes are designed for
women of all fitness levels and stages of life. We prefer our
students to be at least 18 years of age; however, some exceptions may
be made where parents are included or have consulted Anya in advance.
What's the
youngest age you'll allow in class?
Anya's classes are
appropriate for women of all ages--even little girls, as young
as 4 ask to be allowed to "go bellydance with Mommy". Girls
14-17 can attend with a parent involvement and approval. Girls under
the age of 14 are invited to attend special classes designed for their
age group with Mom which are generally held every other month.
So, is it
an exercise class, a dance class?
Author and instructor
Serena Wilson put it best when she said, "I don't know of a better
system of exercise . . . the benefits are built into the steps
themselves; the art came first, and the exercise value followed."
